Is Your Website Losing You Enquiries? 6 Things to Check
If your website looks fine but the phone is quiet, the problem is usually one of six things: it is slow on a phone, Google cannot find it, your Google Business Profile is neglected, something technical is broken, the content does not build trust, or getting in touch is harder than it should be.
Most business owners never check these, because nothing looks wrong. Here is how to check each one yourself, and how to get us to do it for you with a free website and SEO audit.
1. Speed and mobile
Most of your visitors are on a phone. If a page takes more than a few seconds to load, or the buttons are fiddly to tap, they leave before reading a word. Run your homepage through Google PageSpeed Insights and look at the mobile score. Anything in the red is costing you visitors. Every free website audit we do includes a full mobile speed check.
2. Google visibility
Search for your main service and your town, for example "electrician Bradford". If you are not on the first page, Google either does not understand what you do or does not trust your site enough yet. Each page should have its own title, its own description and one clear main heading. If you are not sure how Google sees your site, get a free SEO audit and we will show you.
3. Google Business Profile
For local searches, your map listing often appears before any website. Check it is claimed, your opening hours are right, and your name, address and phone number match your website exactly. Recent photos, regular posts and replies to reviews all help you show up more often. We review your profile as part of every free audit.
4. Technical health
Some problems are invisible to visitors but obvious to Google. Check for the padlock in the address bar on every page, click through your menu to find broken links, and make sure your sitemap is set up in Google Search Console.
5. Content and trust
People decide in seconds whether you can help them. Your homepage should say what you do and where you do it straight away. Each main service needs its own page, and real reviews and photos of your work do far more than stock images.
6. The enquiry journey
Finally, try to contact yourself on your phone. Can you tap your number to call? Is there a clear next step on every page? Is your contact form short? Every extra field or extra click loses a few people.
Where to start
If you only fix one thing this month, make it speed on mobile. It affects every visitor and every other item on this list. If you would rather know exactly what to fix first, request a free website and SEO audit and we will pick out your three priorities.
